We Can Help | Injuries
Paralysis/Quadriplegic/Paraplegic
If you or someone you love has suffered a neck, back or spine injury or illness that resulted in full or partial paralysis, you probably realize the serious physical and emotional adaptations that must occur to ensure a fulfilling and happy life. Paralysis may include paraplegia or quadriplegia and may be accompanied by brain damage, adding to the potential medical and daily care requirements.
Financial and legal obstacles shouldn't be among your worries. Soucie Law will work hard to find you an advocate who will help you handle stressors like medical bills, insurance claim denials, disputes and other claims, and who will take action to prove financial or personal responsibility for your injury.
What Should You Know About Paralysis?
Paralysis is the loss of the power to move a part of the body due to injury or disease of the nerves that supply the muscles involved in moving that part of the body. Paralysis refers to a loss of movement rather than just weakness and the problem originates in the nerves to the muscles rather than in the muscles themselves.
Immobility, from whatever cause, can have widespread effects on almost all systems of the body. It can alter circulation and respiration, the workings of the kidneys and gastrointestinal system, and tissues such as skin, muscles and bones. Changes to muscles, bones and joints can explain some of the discomfort or pain that may accompany paralysis as excess forces pull on other muscle groups or place abnormal stress on joints. Mishandling a paralyzed person can also cause joint damage because the muscles are not strong enough to protect the joints.
Other side effects of paralysis include pressure sores, fluid build-up (edema) and blood clots (thrombosis).
